Army Introduces Hazardous-Spill Response Training Course |
The U.S. Army Environmental Center (USAEC) and the Environmental Training Support Center (ETSC) have developed the Army First Responder-Awareness and Operations Levels training course. The video-based, facilitator-led course is exportable--meaning the school can come to the students--and the material can be tailored to the audience, installation or activity.
The course trains individuals to initiate an emergency response sequence upon discovery of a hazardous-substance release, and satisfies federal requirements to train anyone who could come across such a release on the job. It consists of two modules, or sections. Module I covers First Responder Awareness Level and Module II covers First Responder Operations Level. There are no prerequisite courses for Module I; however, students must complete Module I before taking Module II.
The course materials consist of a 55-minute VHS videotape, student study guides, and a facilitator's guide. The facilitator's guide contains the same material as the students' guides plus information designed to acquaint facilitators with the training material, course design, tailoring guidance, master test forms, and teaching methods.
For information on course distribution, contact Carol Brigance of the Environmental Training Support Center at (205) 722-5866. For technical information about the course, contact Dr. Karen Walker or Charles Harris at USAEC.
